For the weekend of Remembrance Sunday, we could hardly have found anything more appropriate, emotional and poignant than Karl Jenkins’ phenomenally popular The Armed Man – a Mass for Peace, paired with Duruflé’s exquisite Requiem. Accompanied by the Liverpool Concert Orchestra, and with Barbara Ruszics as our soprano soloist, this will be a powerful concert.
We had planned to return to Handel’s iconic Messiah in March 2027 – but the Liverpool Phil are doing it a week before, and it seems silly to compete for audience. SO – have decided to revisit Elgar’s wonderful Dream of Gerontius. We last sang it with Birkenhead Choral and Merchant Taylors’ School – at the Philharmonic Hall. This time we’re doing it on our own! After the success of our Verdi Requiem using a specially arranged reduced orchestration, we’re doing the same with Gerontius. It means you will hear the choir in all its glory – and we won’t break the bank!
Of course there’s also Carols with Brass in December, and in May we have Spring into Summer to round off another season.
