Come and Sing

2025 – Elijah

Saturday 8th February
Surely one of the repertoire’s greatest sings – a dramatic portrayal of the Old Testament story of Elijah.

You can book now – and indeed early booking would be wise, as Holy Trinity Hall (whilst spacious) does have a limited capacity.

2024 – Carmina Burana

Following on from last year’s success, we went for something a little less run-of-the-mill for “Come and Sing” events. It was another fantastic day. Many thanks to all who came along.

Our Come and Sing in 2023 was:

Karl Jenkins’ – The Armed Man

Saturday 28th January
Holy Trinity Church Hall

We started 2023 with a day singing Karl Jenkins’ iconic masterpiece The Armed Man.
Hosted by Formby Choral Society, accompanied by Jon Barton and led by David Holroyd the day proved to be a great success.
We welcomed some 110 singers (many not members of FCS) from around the North-West, and were entertained, educated as well as emotionally moved.

Possibly everyone had a different highlight, but undoubtedly special moments were the Call to Prayer given by Farhan Abu Hassan, and the Last Post played by Chris Thorpe.
These were both surprises to everyone (having been kept secret by David Holroyd).

The performance at the end of the day was fantastic – enjoyed by the singers and the gathering of friends and family who had come to listen … including three who had travelled from Scotland. Now that’s love!

Lunch was provided by The Lunch Hour on Church Road, Formby. Tasty!

Just wanted to thank the whole team for the ‘Come and Sing’ on Saturday at Formby. The welcome, friendliness and organisation on Saturday was wonderful, I encouraged my sister to come and she also loved it. We hadn’t sung the Armed Man before, but both had heard it. I can still hear it!

I wish to express my sincere thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable day on Saturday. It was great to be part of such a powerful sound. The unexpected inclusions [Call to Prayer & Last Post] during the performance were wonderful, though it’s difficult to sing when moved to tears!
I’m  looking forward to the next opportunity . I do appreciate the work that goes into such an occasion and send thanks to all who were involved.
